The Genki I and II Self-Study Course
Interested in going through Genki I or Genki II on your own, but not sure how to self-study these textbooks?
Don’t have time to create your own study plan or figure out an effective way to go through these textbooks?
Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
If you’re on Step 2 of the Roadmap and want to start learning the foundational grammar you’ll need to start reading manga in Japanese, sign up for the Genki I Study Course. And once you complete Genki I, the Genki II Self-Study Course will take you the rest of the way through Step 2.
If you’d prefer to go through these books at your own pace, go here for the study plans for each lesson.
How It Works
Once you sign up for a self-study course, you’ll start receiving assignments the following Monday. Each week you’ll have 4 assignments that will take you through 1 lesson in Genki.
Just complete the assignments as they show up in your inbox until you complete all the lessons for the Genki textbook.
The Genki I self-study course spans 13 weeks (Lesson 0 through Lesson 12).
The Genki II self-study course spans 11 weeks (Lesson 12 through Lesson 23).
Note on Pacing
Covering 1 lesson of Genki each week is a very fast pace I recommend only for those with more than one hour each day to dedicate to study. I’m working on updating these courses to provide a version that covers 1 lesson every 2 weeks, which is a much more manageable pace for working adults. If you have time constraints, please go to the Genki study plan page and study the assignment materials at a pace that works for you.
To make sure your lessons are delivered in the morning, you’ll need to indicate where in the world you reside:
- North or South America—lessons arrive at 04:00 New York time (GMT-5)
- Europe, Africa, or the Middle East—lessons arrive at 00:00 London time (GMT-0)
- East Asia or Oceania—lessons arrive at 02:00 Osaka time (GMT+9)
To sign up, fill out your name, email, and location information in the right form. Happy studying!
